1911D/D $20 St. Gaudens Double Eagle MS65

The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, minted from 1907 to 1933, is widely considered one of the most beautiful gold coins ever produced by the United States. Designed by renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens at the request of President Theodore Roosevelt, the coin features a striking image of Lady Liberty striding forward with a torch and olive branch. Struck in 90% gold it was issued during a time when U.S. currency was still backed by gold reserves under the gold standard. Many Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles were melted down following the 1933 recall of gold coins, making surviving examples, Pre-1933 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles are seen as masterpieces of American numismatics, combining historic value, artistic excellence, and tangible gold wealth.
